NEHS is contracted by the Office of Housing to provide the
following services to the community:-
- Housing Information and Referral Services;
- Tenancy and Property Management Services;
- Asset management services.
NEHS operates in partnership with homelessness organisations in
the Northern Local Area Service Network and mainstream community
services to provide a seamless service system for people who are
homeless or experiencing housing stress.

NEHS stands for North
East Housing Service Limited.
We
acknowledges the right of all people to have access to safe and
secure affordable housing.
We are
committed to needs based service delivery and planning. We
recognise the importance of accountability and responsiveness to
local communities.
It is our
aim to:
- Provide
people with information, resources and referral assistance they
need to make choices about available housing options.
- Advocate
for positive changes in perceptions, structures and processes that
contribute to homelessness.
- Work
collaboratively using the wisdom and experiences of people within
NEHS and the wider community.
We have
clearly defined objectives, which are:
- To
provide, promote and ensure accessible and equitable Community
Housing for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the
North Eastern Region* of Melbourne with particular emphasis on
people who are disadvantaged or who are at risk of
homelessness.
- To be an
independent community organisation providing a range of services
including housing assistance, tenancy, property and asset
management.
- To
participate in and support ongoing research and consultation with
communities and organisations of like interest and relevant
government departments.
*NEHS
covers the Local Government Areas of Banyule, Darebin, Nilumbik,
and Whittlesea.

Mission Statement
North
East Housing Service aims to assist and empower people experiencing
housing stress in the northeast region of Melbourne through the
provision of quality, effective, appropriate information and
referral and tenancy management services. And to actively promote
broader community participation in the development of homeless
services and housing in the northeast region.
Principles
of North East Housing
Everyone
has the right to safe, affordable, and quality housing.
People
are entitled to choice about the type and location of their
housing.
Services
and programs provided will be accessible, effective, efficient, and
respect the confidentiality of service users.
We
provide responsive services to our local communities that aim
to:
- Prevent
homelessness.
- Minimise
the impact of homelessness where it cannot be avoided.
- Enable
homeless people to re-establish a stable housing environment as
soon as possible.
